The Governor's lodge

Front of the Governor’s Lodge, late 17th c.   Founded in 1338 to house the Bailiff, the Logis du Gouverneur subsequently came in for transformations, first in the 15 th century, and most of all in the late 17 th century, when the building's frontage was entirely redone. It is this that can be seen before entering the building that now houses the Musée de Normandie, a museum founded back in 1946 and opened to the public in The entrance to the Musée de Normandie, the Governor’s LodgeDecember 1963.
The permanent exhibition rooms cover three main topics: From Prehistoric Times to the Vikings, Man and the Earth, Man and Materials. The purpose of this public display is to use its archaeological and ethnographic collections to illustrate human cultural development throughout the territory of historical Normandy, from earliest times to the present day.
